Hi! My name is Berta Vallribera, jeweller and author of Banquet.
I have been trained in jewellery, sculpture, design, dance and philosophy, and I am currently studying biomedicine. I wanted to combine these skills to create an artisanal jewellery brand. My interest in technique and the work on shapes has led me to more precise studies of volume and materials. In jewellery, I find the point of contact between craftsmanship and the body, a space that allows me to synthesize the careful and responsible production and a personal style within art and design, the taste for fashion, movement, literature, thinking, dance, all them in tune in the same project.
Hi :) My name is Mariona Serra. At Banquet, I act as a bridge between the project’s creative vision and its growth. I build the universe around the jewellery — its narrative, communication and social media, visual direction and styling — while also making sure the project expands without losing sight of its thread: who we are, what we say, and how we say it.
I trained in psychology and went on to work in language neuropsychology research, studying how language shapes our perceptions and, therefore, the ways in which we make sense of the world. Over time, I found my way into fashion, where I now work, and discovered in it another form of language — one that defines and frames the meaning of things through images and garments. This is why I use fashion as a code, an interface through which to communicate the project: fashion as a language that connects the meaning of the jewellery with the way it is perceived.
I have lived alongside literature for as long as I can remember, and it is where I return to time and again. I also find myself drawn to design, anthropology and psychology. I am interested in narratives, both written and visual, and in the beauty that emerges from the relationship between objects and everything they connote. It is this way of understanding things that I try to bring into Banquet.
Our idea of jewellery
Jewellery has a technical root and is both an art and a craft, which is why we talk about craftsmanship. The craft is a technical exercise while art, on the other hand, is a poetic and sensitive expression. These two branches come from the same origin, the poiesis: the knowledge of how to do things well and also the poetry that emanates from it.
WELCOME TO THE FEAST. BANQUET IS THE CELEBRATION OF EVERYTHING. IT IS THE GREAT EVENT AND THE MEETING POINT OF ALL THINGS. IN THIS OPULENT APPOINTMENT, THE FLESH REGALEMENT MEETS THE PLEASURES OF ART, DEBATE, POLITICS AND SCIENCE.
